PAMS Auxiliary

The Peruvian American Medical Society Auxiliary (PAMS Auxiliary) was organized on July 4, 1984 at the 11th Annual Convention of PAMS in Arequipa, Peru. It exists to assist in achieving the goals of PAMS and to sponsor projects that will improve the health and quality of life for Peruvian citizens.

Membership is open to all spouses of PAMS members and the current annual dues are $50. The Annual Meeting of Auxiliary takes place during the PAMS Convention.

2010

At the 2010 Convention in Piura, Peru the Auxiliary assisted the neonatal unit at Santa Rosa Hospital, located in the poorest area of town. An infusion pump, pulse oximeter, and oxygen flow valve were purchased for the unit and the improvements of the unit with a functioning bathroom, new cabinets, repaired floor and a fresh coat of paint were overseen by the President, Zoraida Cruz. The unit hosted a reception for Auxiliary on Thursday morning of the Convention.

Hogar de Cristo is a private boy’s orphanage on the outskirts of town. It is funded by individuals in the community and overseen by Luis Valencia and his wife, who live at the orphanage with their two children. In their 9 years of existence more than 400 children have been in and out of the home and when they finish high school they are welcome to stay, and not made to leave. Currently some are attending the university while still living in the home. A computer, printer/scanner, dried food, and three months of internet service were purchased for the orphanage and used clothes were donated to the boys. The Damas de Azul, who provide food for the home, hosted a reception for Auxiliary on Friday morning.

CASA Committee

During the past few years Auxiliary has been focusing on the need of orphans to be able to lead productive lives. At the age of 18, according to the law, orphans can no longer live in state orphanages and often end up on the streets. The CASA Committee (Comité de Asistencia Social y Apoyo) was proposed and approved at the 2009 Ica Convention with the responsibility to develop a plan to encourage responsibility, independence, and skills for a self-sufficient life style once an orphan becomes of age.

The current focus is to assist those that have demonstrated a desire for further education, trade or professional, not only with funds, but with an accountable support system for safe daily living.

The following projects are underway and we would love to have your support. If you are interested in knowing more about one of the projects please contact the designated Auxiliary Member. Donations for Auxiliary Projects should be submitted to the Auxiliary Endowment Fund with specific designation.
